Everglow Community Care would not be able to support ageing North Queenslanders without our amazing frontline workers.
One of those workers is Enrolled Nurse Sue Garvin who sat down with us to chat about the work she does and the passion that drives her.
AUTHOR: Sue Garvin
They say there’s no rest for the wicked, and while it’s not a word I would always use to describe myself, my role as Enrolled Nurse at Everglow Community Care certainly keeps my days, and my heart, full.
The role of nurse comes with an understanding that no day will ever be same. Whether we’re helping organise the client care plans, sorting out and administering medications, wound dressing and care, or admission assessments for new clients, every day is different. Add to that that fact that we work with clients throughout Townsville, the Burdekin and Hinchinbrook and it tends to equal some busy days but we all love what we do.
By doing this work, and working closely with the Case Managers, we can help our clients to remain mobile, independent and most importantly, in their homes.
Having been an Enrolled Nurse for the most part of 15 years, I’ve worked with a wide variety of patients.
The most rewarding aspect of my role is working with the clients and their families and getting a really positive outcome for them. Between us, the Case Managers, GP’s and allied health professionals, we really take pride in offering that holistic and individually tailored approach to each client so that everyone involved is happy and is getting a great outcome.
I practice what I preach, and make sure that in my own time I am taking care of myself through activities like paint by numbers for adults, as well as spending time with my growing family so I can start every week refreshed, revived and ready to go.
