Message from the CEO

Hello good people,

Welcome to another Everglow newsletter. I hope this finds you all well and in good spirits.

This month I was fortunate enough to get up to Ingham to be at the opening of our craft group’s display in the Art Gallery. Such fantastic pieces of art created by our clients, they should be immensely proud of their creations.

A big thank you to Rotary and the Hinchinbrook Shire Council for their ongoing support which enables us to provide such events in Ingham.

I attended a Senior’s forum held here in Townsville this past month. Organised by Senator Ian McDonald, with key note speaker being the
Federal Minister for Aged Care and Indigenous Health the Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP.

It was a fantastic opportunity for me to advocate and raise client concerns with the Minister directly in relation to My Aged Care. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank both Senator Ian McDonald and the Minister for immediately addressing issues being experienced by ECCLI.

These were resolved in a matter of days.

It was also refreshing to get an understanding of the improvements being made at a Federal level to ensure Medicare and Department of
Health information is shared to reduce client resolution time frames.

I welcome any feedback from you in relation to your services or any opportunities for improvement.

What to do to be prepared for a Summer (Wet Season???) in North Queensland

Dealing with the Heat

It is really important that we all remember that the consistent heat and humidity in the north can take a
toll on our health if we neglect the following.

  • Drink sufficient water on a daily basis; and
  • Keep your home as cool as possible.

This can occur through opening a window to let the breeze in. Turning on the fans at least during the hottest part of the day or using air conditioners as required.

Severe Weather Event (Fire / Flood / Cyclone)

Every year we prepare for a Cyclone that often does not arrive. As a result we often become complacent; it is better to be prepared and safe than sorry after the event. So here are the reminders of what you will need if and when that moment arrives: –

  • Clean gutters and tidy up around the house.
  • Have your Emergency / Evacuation plan ready if need be.
  • If your area floods know the location of your closest shelter.
  • Talk to family members and/or friends and neighbours so everyone is on the same page for your safety.


Prepare your Emergency Kit

1. Non perishable food items and bottled water

2. Essential medications / First Aid Kit / Toilet paper / Personal Items such as tooth brush/soap etc.
3. Battery powered radio / Mobile phone / Torch / Batteries
4. Change of clothes plus hat / sturdy gloves / closed in shoes / Sunglasses.
5. Camp oven or gas burner / Basic tools / Garbage Bags
6. Important documents— Legal / Banking / Insurance etc.
